Overview of Olakira Migration Camp

Experience an intimate tented camp that follows the wildebeest migration across the Serengeti plains: Olakira Camp spends several months in two different locations to ensure ringside seats for all the drama of Nature’s biggest show. Head south to the Ndutu region to witness the wildebeest birthing season or try the camp’s northern location and watch the herds cross the crocodile-filled Mara River.

Spend your time on morning and afternoon game drives in search of the Serengeti’s remarkable wildlife before unwinding after a day of adventure and sharing your stories about the day’s sightings around a campfire.

Make a Positive Impact Through Travel

Asilia empowers crucial wilderness areas in East Africa, benefitting people and nature alike. By making bold, and often pioneering, investments into areas that are ecologically and economically vulnerable, Asilia aims to turn these areas into viable conservation economies, benefitting both the local communities as well as the environment. With the help of guests, who contribute a levy of US$ 5 for each night that they stay at an Asilia property, Asilia is able to make a significant positive impact towards their goal of empowering these areas, including the communities and wildlife that call them home.

With it being a small mobile migratory tented camp it is always close to the wildebeest migration. Fantastic staff, a homely feel and amazing food makes this camp a highlight!

Just to say I had an amazing trip. All contacts made very well, flights and lodges, fantastic, as was the food at all times. The guides at each camp/lodge were great as was the jeep transport. The Big 5 I saw many times; also two migrations, one at Governor’s Camp by zebras mostly and one at Olakira Camp, thousands of wildebeest; hunting lions, a pride of 9 lions, leopard several times, cheetah several times including a chase, all other African wildlife, black rhino, hippos, crocs, birds. Monkeys, snake, giant lizard, tortoise and of course elephants, giraffes etc, so all in all everything I had looked for in this trip came true. Fabulous photography at all times. I make photographic books for each trip and to select from the thousand photos is going to be very difficult!

The last thing I would like to mention is Olikera Camp, our next favourite place. Again, the tent experience is the way to see Africa. Three people there deserve recognition..David, Good Luck and Martin all were great at their jobs and helped make our time there most memorable.

The staff here works very hard, simple food, but good. For camping, we still had a full proper bed. We were impressed that they have “running” water in the tents, but some customers were unhappy with the bucket showers.

Olakira was by far the best experience of our whole trip. The staff were spectacular, the accommodations great, the atmosphere family-like and the food and drinks were amazing.

Jambo! In a word, the trip was fantastic. The driver-guide was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and certainly added a lot of value to the trip. The Olakira tented camps were fantastic, the quality of the accomodation far exceeded our expectations and the staff could not do enough for us.

Every overnight accommodation was at least very good and all the way to a the safari tent experience of my dreams. The Olakari camp was more rustic, but so close to nature and the animals and it was difficult to imagine you were in mobile tents.

My expectations were completely met with the Olakira Lodge. That WAS the highlight for me. No fences and real tents but with bathrooms that worked!!! The staff was amazing as was the food (actually the best food on the whole trip was from Olakira). Each safari from there left us in awe and the best part; the vehicle was not restricted to following tracks. It felt like a safari of “old”, at least the safari of old from my imagination. And Yes, we did have animals around our tents at night!!!

This camp has definitely been our favorite one! It was managed in a very good way by Pascal and the tents were the best ones we have ever experienced.

TANZANIA WAS SUPER!!! We really had a great time. The tented camps and lodges you chose were very nice with good service, the parks we went to were a great choice. Great mixture too! Taking our own jeep and guide was good advice! We had quite some rain, but it never bothered us except that it spoiled our Fly Camp. A pity, but this was quickly forgotten thanks to the fact that we saw lots of animals. Great safaris, honestly.

Very Positive experiences. The manager was good. Staff very friendly. Nice sunrise and distant views of wild life from the window of our tent. Easy to get adjusted to the toilets and shower routines. Coffee at the tent in the morning was a nice touch. Group Campfire was memorable.

In truth, we really enjoyed the camping experience, because of the happy hours around the campfire before dinner. The happy hour gave us a chance to meet with other tourists, exchange stories with each other and enjoy a dinner together. All of the campsites and lodges had their own charm, and we thought that the staff in each place were very friendly and helpful to us.

I was completely blown away by the Serengeti, the camp at Olakira and the staff, and East Africa in general. I’ve definitely “caught the Africa travel bug” and correct people when they tell me it’s a once in a lifetime experience – it will be more than once for me – I’d go back anytime! Or, perhaps once the credit card is paid off 🙂

We were only there one night and it was a night to remember! There was a lion roaring right outside our tent. I didn’t get much sleep due to the noise but it wasn’t boring! Lesson here is recommend sleeping aids be on hand! Note that the staff were very reassuring and fear was not a factor.

Olakira was very good, except that the migration had started earlier than expected so there was no big game around, though strangely enough loads of lions.
Thanks for all your help with the bookings etc.
