Day to day
Your tour will kick off in the Panhandle of the Okavango, where astonishing bird watching, fishing, land exploration and game viewing offer a quintessential Delta experience. The unique and everchanging landscape is a wonder to behold because of the wildlife it hosts – from apex predators to smaller mammals. rnrnThe Okavango Delta is one of the largest inland deltas in the world, supporting and sustaining the water source for multiple communities. Enjoy exploring crystal clear channels on mokoros or venture inland to visit the Tsodilo Hills, a 3000-year-old, World Heritage Site of more than 4,000 San Bushmen artworks.rnrnAfter a day of activity, you can enjoy sundowners and dinner on the deck of the Okavango Spirit Houseboat whilst enjoying the sounds of the waterways and listening to the calls of the fish eagles at dusk. rn
After breakfast on the Okavango Spirit, you will be transferred from Shakawe to a private game concession and to your luscious riverine mobile tent at the Expeditions Camp; your home for the next two nights. rnrnImmersed in apple-leaf woodlands and banking water channels, this is a magnificent wildlife hub of many different species to explore. View game alongside the flood plains and riverbanks. This is one of the best places to see species such as giraffes, zebra and wildebeest as well as prolific populations of bird life. Enjoy game drives, bush walks and mokoro paddling through the papyrus lined channels of the Delta.rnrnIn the evening you can take full advantage of the night drives that allow you to see nocturnal predators at play. No two game drives are ever the same. Dinner takes place around the crackles of a night fire. Your expert guides will identify local residents, the pair of pearl spotted owls, known to the camp site. This is the perfect place to feel transported, under a solar system of stars to view. The mobile camps will have you feeling at the heart of nature, separated from the wilderness by only a canvas tent. rn
After a hearty breakfast in the bush at the water’s edge, begin your next adventure with a short ride to your charter flight taking you into the Hyena Pan. The Hyena Pan celebrates life in the middle of the bush. A year-round water source, the Hyena Pan is a natural waterhole that attracts wildlife throughout the seasons. Surrounded by mopane forest, the territories of many species are nestled in the heart of the Hyena Pan. You may be lucky enough to spot a pride of lions and packs of wild dogs, the endangered painted wolf of Africa. Explore woodland hideouts of the kudu herds, or witness leopards hidden away in tree canopies, or even warthogs sunbathing in the grasslands. After rewarding game-viewing, retire to the poolside or the campfire and reflect on the day, preparing for a wholesome and freshly prepared open-air dinner.rn
Enjoy a breakfast overlooking elephants at the waterhole and get ready for your next charter flight to Maun. After a short drive, arrive at Meno A Kwena, set at the edge of the Delta wetlands and above the Boteti River, overlooking the Makgadikgadi National Park. There are many activities to be enjoyed at Meno A Kwena. Take a guided walk with local San Bushmen and learn of the ancient cultural history known to the area in medicinal herbs, spoor tracking and endemic plant identification. Game viewing is made a pleasure from your own private veranda. After a day of educational tours, come back to a candle lit dinner where you can watch your meal being prepared right in front of you.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Thamo Telele, hidden away in a private nature reserve on the banks of the Thamalakane River. The river attracts seasonal wildlife and promises animal crossings year-round. Witness giraffes, zebras, springbok and more from the comfort of your private deck. Spend a day relaxing at the spa or on an exnihilating game drive with an expert guide. Your final dinner will be hosted at the tree canopy dining deck, overlooking a far- stretching wilderness. Sit back and relax in recollection of the tour’s highlights.
After a relaxing morning enjoying the scenery at Royal tree Lodge, you will be transferred to Maun where you begin your journey home with everlasting memories created in the bush.
